Beach

South Friars Bay

South Peninsula, St. Kitts

Beautiful beach on calm Caribbean side. Golden sand, gentle water. Beach bars including Carambola Beach Club. Popular with locals and tourists. Good swimming and snorkeling.

Local Tips
Visit South Friars Bay early morning before 9 AM or late afternoon after 4 PM to avoid the cruise ship crowds. The beach chairs and umbrellas are often available for free during these quieter times, whereas during peak hours (10 AM-3 PM) you'll need to purchase drinks to use them.
Instead of buying overpriced snacks at the beach bars, stop at the small local shop just before the beach entrance road (near the roundabout) where locals buy cold drinks and snacks at half the price. The shop owner, Miss Janet, keeps the coldest sodas on the peninsula.
Beach

Cockleshell Beach

Southeast Peninsula, St. Kitts

Twin beaches with white sand and stunning views of Nevis. Beach bars including Reggae Beach Bar. Calm water, excellent swimming. Popular beach day destination.

Local Tips
Visit Cockleshell Beach on weekday mornings between 7-9 AM to have the entire stretch almost to yourself, as most tourists don't venture out early and the cruise ship crowds typically arrive after 10 AM.
Instead of buying drinks at the beach bars, stop at the local shop in Frigate Bay village before heading to Cockleshell - you'll pay about half the price for the same beverages and can enjoy them on the beach without restrictions.
Beach

Pinney's Beach

West coast, Nevis

4-mile palm-fringed beach with golden sand and calm water. Four Seasons resort, beach bars, restaurants. Sunset views of St. Kitts. Most popular beach in Nevis.

Local Tips
Visit Pinney's Beach early morning (7-9 AM) or late afternoon (4-6 PM) to avoid cruise ship crowds. The beach gets packed between 10 AM-3 PM when multiple ships dock at Port Zante, but locals enjoy peaceful swims during these quieter hours.
Skip the expensive beach bars and bring your own cooler - there are no restrictions on food and drinks. Park for free at the public access point near the Four Seasons rather than paying resort parking fees, and you'll have the same beautiful beach experience.
Beach

Oualie Beach

North coast, Nevis

Small beach with dark sand and calm water. Water sports center, dive shop, restaurant. Views of St. Kitts. Less crowded, more local atmosphere. Good for families.

Local Tips
Visit Oualie Beach early morning around 7-8 AM on weekdays when the beach is practically empty and the water is calmest. Most tourists don't realize the beach bar doesn't open until 10 AM, so you'll have this stunning black sand beach almost entirely to yourself for swimming and photos.
Bring your own snorkel gear and drinks - the beach bar charges premium resort prices (drinks can be 3-4x local cost). The snorkeling is excellent right off the beach near the rocky areas on the left side, and you'll save significantly compared to renting equipment there.
