Be extremely cautious of the strong undertow at Isla Verde, especially near the Ritz-Carlton area. Locals know to swim closer to the El San Juan Hotel section where the water is calmer and lifeguards are more vigilant. Many tourists underestimate the powerful currents here.

Be extra cautious with the strong undertow at Ocean Park Beach, especially near the eastern end by the rocks - even experienced swimmers get caught off guard by the powerful currents that are much stronger here than at other San Juan beaches.
