Beaches & Coastline
Beach
Turtle Beach
Ocho Rios, St. Ann, Jamaica
Main public beach in Ocho Rios. Popular with locals and tourists. Good swimming, water sports available. Near Dunn's River Falls.
Local Tips
Visit Turtle Beach early morning (6:30-8:30 AM) when local fishermen bring in their catch - you'll have the beach mostly to yourself and can buy the freshest fish directly from the boats at fraction of restaurant prices.
Stay within the marked swimming areas near the lifeguard stations - the western end of the beach has strong undertows that catch tourists off guard, and locals know to avoid swimming there especially during afternoon high tides.
Beach
James Bond Beach
Oracabessa Bay, near Ocho Rios, Jamaica
Named for its proximity to GoldenEye (Ian Fleming's former estate where he wrote the Bond novels), this beach offers a touch of glamour along with white sand and calm waters. The beach club atmosphere includes music, food, and occasional events.
Local Tips
Visit James Bond Beach on weekday mornings before 11 AM to avoid the cruise ship crowds that typically arrive mid-day. The beach is practically empty during these hours, and you'll have the iconic filming locations to yourself for photos.
Instead of paying the full entrance fee at the main gate, walk east along the shoreline from the public Oracabessa Bay beach - there's a natural pathway through the rocks that locals use to access the western end of James Bond Beach without paying admission.
