Beach

Les Salines

Sainte-Anne, Martinique

Most beautiful beach in Martinique. Half-mile of white sand, turquoise water, palm trees. Calm swimming, picnic areas, food vendors. Popular with locals and tourists. Can get crowded.

Local Tips
Visit Les Salines on weekday mornings before 10am to have the stunning white sand beach almost entirely to yourself. Locals know that cruise ship passengers and tour groups typically arrive after 11am, so early birds get the best photo opportunities and peaceful beach experience.
Be extremely careful of the manchineel trees (mancenilliers) with small green fruits near the beach edges - locals call them 'death apples.' Never touch the bark, leaves, or fruit as they cause severe burns and blistering. Look for warning signs or ask locals to point them out, as tourists often mistake them for regular shade trees.
Beach

Anse Dufour

West coast, Martinique

Small charming beach with dark sand and calm water. Excellent snorkeling with sea turtles frequently spotted. Beach restaurants. Peaceful atmosphere.

Local Tips
Visit Anse Dufour on weekday mornings before 10am to have the beach practically to yourself and enjoy the calmest waters for snorkeling - most tourists arrive after the cruise ships dock around 11am and locals come on weekends.
Bring your own snorkeling gear and swim out to the rocky area on the left side of the beach where locals know the best fish viewing spots are - the sea turtles often feed on the seagrass beds there in the early morning hours.
Beach

Grande Anse des Salines

Southern tip, Martinique

Continuation of Les Salines, more secluded. White sand, calm water, coconut palms. Less crowded, more natural. Perfect for peaceful beach day.

Local Tips
Visit Grande Anse des Salines early morning (7-9 AM) or late afternoon (4-6 PM) to avoid the cruise ship crowds that typically arrive between 10 AM and 3 PM. The beach is particularly stunning during golden hour, and you'll have much better access to the iconic coconut palms for photos.
Be extremely careful of the manchineel trees (mancenilliers) that grow behind the beach - they have small green fruits that look like apples but are highly toxic. Never touch the tree, its fruit, or shelter under it during rain as the sap can cause severe burns. Look for warning signs or ask locals to point them out.
