Visit Plage de la Caravelle early morning between 7-9 AM on weekdays to have the beach almost entirely to yourself, as most locals arrive after 10 AM and tourists typically come later in the day.
Be cautious of strong underwater currents on the eastern side of the beach near the rocky outcrop, especially during high tide - locals always swim closer to the main sandy area where the water is calmer and safer.

Visit Plage de Malendure on weekday mornings before 9 AM to have the best snorkeling spots practically to yourself, as most tour boats don't arrive until mid-morning and locals typically come after work hours.
Always wear reef-safe shoes when entering the water - the volcanic rock formations create sharp edges hidden beneath the sand near the shoreline, and many tourists get cuts on their feet not knowing this.

Local Tips
Visit Anse Laborde early in the morning before 8 AM or after 5 PM to avoid the cruise ship crowds that arrive mid-morning and stay until late afternoon. The beach is practically empty during these times, and you'll have better access to parking spots along the coastal road.
Be cautious of strong currents on the eastern side of the beach, especially during high tide. Locals always swim closer to the western rocks where the water is calmer and there's natural protection from the reef. The seemingly calm surface can be deceiving for inexperienced swimmers.
